The first in a long series of Samichay events will start with a three-day course on artistic bioconstruction, and culminate in an event that will blend music, poetry, art and more. We look forward to seeing you!
✶ Programme
We are happy to present the first in a long series of summer events by Samichay!
Before going into details, here is how this three-day event will unfold:
Friday 24 May: start of the bioconstruction course by Arundo
Saturday 25 May: continuation of the bio-construction course. From the afternoon, music and slam poetry.
Sunday 26 May: group lunch, games, lots of music until the evening, slackline, and a few surprises 😉
✶ What is Arundo
From 24 to 26 May, will be a course on DIY techniques based on bamboo and Mediterranean reed, offered in collaboration with Arundo.
Arundo is a collective that deals with participatory artistic bioconstruction, with the aim of proposing artistic and social activities based on permaculture principles, creating ecologically sustainable works of art and coordinating courses in self-construction.
It will be a unique opportunity to learn the method Canyaviva, based on the sustainable use of Mediterranean cane (Arundo donax L.) and bamboo (Bambusoideae). Their abundance and renewability and their properties offer the possibility of using them as building materials, with an expressive freedom that allows for organic and innovative forms.
Arundo's is:
🌿 Ecological art, which is born and grows with complete respect for nature, observing its cycles and proposing a sustainable solution to the invasiveness of plants considered to be pests.
🌿 Process art, in which each stage in the realisation of the works is emphasised, from the collection of the material to the final finishing details.
🌿 Collective art, as a place for social gathering and sharing.
🌿 Formative art, as the realisation of works often takes place through an active apprenticeship process in which self-construction is promoted.
✶ Course Information
The course, of duration of 20 hours, is organised in a theoretical and a practical part that allows you to learn the basics of building with Mediterranean cane & bamboo according to the CanyaViva method.
A certificate of participation will be issued.
We will realise a work of land art together consisting of structural arches made of whole reeds and ribs in
bamboo splits, deepening the technical knowledge to build gazebos, pergolas as well,
arcades, greenhouses and artistic chicken coops!
✵ Theoretical programme:
Biological characteristics of Mediterranean cane and bamboo; uses of cane
in vernacular architecture; history, developments and technical aspects of the method CanyaViva; foundations and
roofing; design elements; completed projects.
✵ Practical programme:
Material preparation techniques: collection, cleaning, classification, systems of
ligation; fabrication of structural elements according to the method CanyaViva; deepening the
construction of modules / columns / arches / ribs; connection, bending and assembly of arches
structural and ribs.

✶ Prices
🌸 The course costs €250 for the three-day event, and includes meals until Sunday lunch.
🌸 If you have already participated in an Arundo and you want to learn more about the technique, the cost is €150 for the three-day event, and includes meals until Sunday lunch.
🌸 You can bring your own tent or rent a Glamping tent, which you will find already set up on site.
🌸 On Saturday 25 and Sunday 26, there will be a meeting with music, art installations, slam poetry, and many nice things. It will be in parallel with the Bioconstruction course and will continue after its completion. A mini-Samichay, in short.
